Italian M92 Somalia field uniform, desert, surplus. Following the trend of the United States, United Kingdom, and France, the Italian army adopted a camouflage pattern in early 1991 designed specifically for troops deployed in desert environments. This Mimetismo Desertico was originally used by Italian soldiers sent to Somalia (UNOSOM II) but became the standard camouflage pattern for the army for the next fifteen years. The design features reddish-brown, olive green, and beige woodland patterns against a sandy background. The jacket has two velcro-secured inner pockets (chest pockets), button-adjustable cuffs, and buttons up the front. The elbows are reinforced with two layers of fabric. There are two velcro patches on the chest for insignia. The trousers have two side pockets, two buttoned thigh pockets, + 45 mm belt loops at the waist, and the fly fastens with a button and a zipper. The cuffs have elastic drawstrings. The knees feature double fabric reinforcement. The sleeve may have the Italian flag, but it can be removed if necessary.
