Bushmen Hideout Thermo Bivvy Bag. A versatile bivy bag designed to protect your sleeping bag. This bivy safeguards against moisture and insects and can be used as a poncho. Made from breathable Ripstop Polyester, the interior features a "silverized" layer similar to Bushmen's Thermo Tarps. It reflects your body heat back into the bag, helping you stay warm. Use it also as a rain poncho, tarp, and wind protection while in a hammock or as a poncho.
Main features include an integrated mosquito net, waterproof zippers, and a reflective inner surface. This gear weighs only 0.6 kg.
Hideout Thermo – When Hiking Turns to Survival
Hiking, trekking, and wilderness adventures offer the freedom to blaze your own trail and enjoy nature, regardless of the weather. Conditions can shift from warm and beautiful to unexpectedly rainy and cold or face swarms of insects. Your route plan may change, leading you to sleep among the trees or in a cave. In these scenarios, multifunctional gear makes adapting to shifting conditions easier, ensuring your expedition is memorable even with changes.
Hideout Thermo is much more than just a bivy bag
A bivy bag is an essential piece of outdoor gear for sleeping on the ground or in a hammock. It can transform into a rain poncho, making it easy to walk in comfort while sheltered from the elements.
The innovative functions and details of Hideout Thermo enhance its versatility for sleeping and breaks. Read on to discover more about the product’s features.

Hideout Thermo Bivvy Bag with Mosquito Net Hood
The first detailed feature is the detachable mosquito net hood. The hood is spacious enough to accommodate a broad-brimmed hat or even a helmet. It is adjustable at the back with a drawstring. The opening features a mosquito net, which can be positioned closer to your face using wire. This smart solution keeps your head and neck safe from insects, whether used as a poncho or bivy. The mosquito net is sufficiently dense to keep black flies out.
Bivvy Bag – Ground or Hammock Use
You can use the Hideout Thermo bivy bag to protect your sleeping bag while sleeping under the open sky on a sleeping pad. While hammock camping, Hideout can serve as wind protection around your hammock. The total length of the bivy bag with the mosquito net hood is 2.6 m, comprising a 2.3 m “body” and a 30 cm high hood. This bivy bag is ideal for tall individuals, leaving room at the foot for gear. Keep your essentials dry and accessible by storing them in the two internal pockets, which feature water-repellent zippers.
When all zippers are closed, it forms a long mummy-shaped bivy bag. The interior has a heat-reflecting layer to maximize thermal comfort.
The upper part of the Hideout is approximately 90 cm wide, accommodating even broad-shouldered individuals. Towards the foot end, the bag tapers gradually to about 45 cm in width. At the point where a standard sleeping bag would end, the Hideout measures around 55 cm wide.
The materials used in the Hideout are waterproof, ensuring that even the side zippers provide water resistance (not submersible). With these materials, you can sleep outside without getting wet.
The “silverized” layer reflects about 98% of UV rays (UPF50+), offering ample sun protection.
A unique feature of Hideout Thermo is the ability to connect it to another similar Hideout bivy, creating a two-person setup.
Using as a Poncho
Hideout also functions as a rain poncho with several unique features – guaranteed Bushmen innovation. When used as a poncho, close the water-repellent side zippers, allowing openings for your hands. You can adjust the poncho's breathability as needed using the same zippers.
The zippered sides offer superior protection from rain, snow, and wind compared to traditional ponchos that secure with snaps or Velcro. The hem falls just below the knees for an average-height person. Using the Hideout as a poncho, a flap pocket sits at chest height.
There’s a chest pocket with a waterproof zipper and flap. The flap includes Velcro for attaching identification patches. The supplied elastic band can be used as a belt, keeping the poncho snug against you.
Using as a Tarp
If needed, Hideout Thermo can also function as a tarp during breaks or when caught in adverse weather. The Hideout measures 2.3 m in length without the hood, sufficient to provide shelter for one person.
You can pair two Hideouts together to form a larger tarp for two people. The innovator behind Hideout's features is Polish company Pa?atka, known for its tarps.
Remember – when setting up the Hideout as a tarp, use the supplied elastic bands for securing it. Using elastic bands for attachment reduces the risk of damage in wind gusts or tripping over lines.
Usage Instructions and Tips
Before outdoor use – Review the instructions below!
Using Tensioning Elastic Bands: Purpose and Application
Bushmen products often use spring buckles and stoppers in various items. All have the purpose of preventing potential damage to the gear. Elastic bands are designed to absorb sudden pulls caused by usage or unforeseen loads. If too much force is applied to the securing rope or elastic, it will yield, allowing slack to form. The ends of securing ropes and elastics have stoppers to also allow give when excessive forces are applied to the buckle. These features aim to protect the gear – a stopper coming off is a feature, not a defect.
Reattaching a Stopper or Hook
Reattaching a stopper or hook to the elastic or rope is straightforward. Open the flap on the hook or stopper, which may require a sharp tool (knife, screwdriver). Check the end of the elastic or rope, trim it if needed, and cautiously heat the ends with a lighter or flame. Shape the end flat – avoid burning your fingers.
Place the end of the extension cord in the gap between the flap and the main part of the hook, then close the flap. Ensure the extension end does not slip out of the hook – this indicates that forces and stresses applied to the Hideout Thermo are too great, potentially causing damage not covered by warranty.
Condensation in Hideout Thermo
Although the outer material is waterproof and breathable, moisture can accumulate inside the Hideout. This moisture often comes from the user's sweat and breath. Additionally, condensation can form from prolonged contact with damp ground. These are natural phenomena.
REMEMBER! – The fabric is not flame or spark resistant – keep it away from sparks and open flames.
Repair Material
Each Hideout comes with repair material for fixing a damaged Hideout. Clean and dry the damaged area. Carefully remove the protective paper from the adhesive patch and place it over the damaged area. Press in place and wait 20 minutes for the repair to set.
