Made from breathable Ripstop Polyester, it features a "silvered" inner layer similar to Bushmen's Thermo Tarps. It reflects your body heat back into the bivy, helping you stay warm. The bivy bag can also be utilized as a rain poncho, tarp, or wind protector.
Key features include an integrated mosquito net, waterproof zippers, and reflective interior. The weight of this gear is just 0.6 kg.
Hideout Thermo – when hiking turns into survival
Hiking, trekking, and camping offer the freedom to roam nature, allowing you to enjoy the great outdoors regardless of the weather. While conditions can be warm and beautiful, they can quickly shift to being rainy and cold, or you may encounter unexpected swarms of insects. Your route may change, and a camping spot may end up being behind a pine tree or in a cave. In these scenarios, multifunctional gear makes changing conditions easier to manage and ensures your adventure is memorable, even with a few surprises.
Hideout Thermo is much more than just a bivy bag
The Bivy Bag is a camping accessory designed for sleeping on the ground or in a hammock. It transforms into a rain poncho, making it easy to walk around in.

Hideout Thermo bivvy bag with mosquito net hood
The first meticulously designed detail is the detachable mosquito net hood. The hood is spacious enough to accommodate a wide-brim hat or even a helmet. It features an adjustable drawstring at the back for a snug fit. The hood's opening is covered by a mosquito net which can be adjusted for distance from your face with wire. This clever mosquito net solution protects your head and neck from insects, whether you use it as a poncho or a bivy. The netting is dense enough to keep black flies out.
Bivy Bag – on the ground or in a hammock
You can use the Hideout thermo bivvy bag as a protective layer over your sleeping bag while sleeping on a mat under the open sky. While hammock camping, the Hideout can also be used as a wind protector around the hammock. The total length of the bivy bag with the mosquito net hood is 2.6 m, comprising a 2.3 m "body" and a 30 cm high hood. This bivy bag is well-suited for taller individuals, leaving space at the foot end for gear. Store items and supplies you want to keep dry and within reach in the inner pockets. There are two pockets, both with water-repellent zippers.
When all zippers are closed, it forms a long, mummy-shaped bivy bag. Inside, a warmth-reflective layer maximizes thermal comfort.
The upper part of Hideout is about 90 cm wide, making it spacious enough for even broad-shouldered individuals. Towards the foot section, the bivy bag gradually tapers to about 45 cm width. At the point where a conventional sleeping bag would end, Hideout is approximately 55 cm wide.
The materials used in Hideout are waterproof, ensuring that even the side-zippered sections keep water out (not fully submersible). Thanks to these waterproof materials, you can sleep outdoors without getting wet.
The "silvered" layer of the Hideout reflects about 98% of UV rays (UPF50+), providing excellent protection from the sun.
A unique feature of the Hideout Thermo is the ability to combine it with another similar Hideout bivvy, creating a two-person bivvy.
Using it as a poncho
Hideout also serves as a rain poncho with many unique features – a testament to Bushmen innovation. When used as a poncho, close the water-repellent side zippers, leaving openings for your hands. The ventilation can be adjusted as needed using the same zippers.
The zippered sides protect from rain, snow, and wind more effectively than traditional ponchos secured with snaps or Velcro. The hem reaches just below the knees of an average person. When using Hideout as a poncho, a kangaroo pocket sits at the chest level.
The pocket features a waterproof zipper and flap. Velcro on the flap allows for the attachment of patches. The included elastic band can be used as a belt, ensuring the poncho fits better.
Using it as a tarp
The Hideout Thermo can also be used as a tarp during breaks or when caught in bad weather. Without the hood, the length is 2.3 m, sufficient for forming a rain shelter for one person.
You can connect two Hideouts together to create a larger tarp for two people. The innovator behind the Hideout's details is Polish artisan Pałatka laavua
Remember – if you want to set up the Hideout as a tarp, use the included elastic bands for rigging. Using elastic bands reduces the possibility of the Hideout being damaged by gusts of wind or tripping over ropes.
Usage instructions and tips
Before outdoor use – familiarize yourself with the instructions below!
Using slide buckles on elastic bands
Bushmen incorporate slide buckles and stops in many products. These serve a purpose in preventing potential damage to the products. The elastic bands are designed to absorb sudden pulls caused by use or unexpected loads. If excessive force is applied to a tie rope or elastic band, it gives way, causing the elastic or tie rope to loosen. The ends of the tie ropes and elastic bands have stops, which are also designed to yield if excessive force is applied to the buckle. These properties are intended to protect the gear – a slip of the stop is not a defect, but a feature.
Reattaching a stop or hook
Reattaching a stop or hook to the elastic band or cord is easy. Lift the flap on the hook or stop, and you may need a sharp tool (knife, screwdriver) for this. Check the end of the elastic or cord, trim it as needed, and carefully heat the end with a lighter or another flame source. Flatten the end – be cautious not to burn your fingers.
With the flap still raised, insert the end of the extension cord between the flap and the main part of the hook, and close the flap. Do not allow the extension cord to slip out of the hook – this means that the forces and stresses applied to the Hideout Thermo are too high and may cause damage that is not covered by warranty.
Condensation forming inside Hideout Thermo
While the outer material is waterproof and breathable, moisture can accumulate inside the Hideout. Moisture is often produced from user perspiration and breathing. Additionally, condensation can occur from contact with wet ground, especially in prolonged situations. These are natural phenomena.
REMEMBER! – The fabric is not flame or spark resistant – keep it away from sparks and open flames.
Repair materials
Each Hideout comes with patching material that can be used to repair a damaged Hideout. Clean and dry the damaged area. Carefully remove the protective paper covering the patch and place the patch over the damaged spot. Press the patch into place and wait 20 minutes, and the repair is complete.
