Hossa, our country's newest national park, brings greetings from millennia ago: The oldest habitats are 10,000 years old and the Värikallio rock paintings were created 4,000 years ago. Waters flow from three directions at Hossa, continuing toward the Oulujoki River and the Gulf of Bothnia. Tar burners transported their tar barrels down the river to Oulu. Nowadays, kayakers and wildlife like otters, white-throated dippers, whooper swans, and wild geese roam these waters.

In the rugged, pine-dominated forests, bears and other large predators thrive along with capercaillie and Siberian jays. Hikers have access to 90 kilometers of designated trails for hiking, skiing, and biking.
