The Source WLPS features a large widepack opening that allows the bladder to open completely at the top. The mouthpiece is angled 90 degrees, making the hose shorter and less obtrusive. The drinking tube is coated with highly abrasion-resistant material that insulates the water from outside temperatures and blocks UV rays.

The mouthpiece is of the Storm model, which opens by pulling, and can be swapped out for the squeezable Helix model, which is slightly easier to use. The mouthpiece is easy to disassemble, clean, and maintain. The Storm mouthpiece operates by pulling/pushing. Opening can be done with your mouth.
Advantages over bite-value openings include a greater flow, better functioning in cold weather, and leak-proof when under pressure.

The interior surface of the bladder is made from specially smooth film, with smoothness equivalent to glass. This smooth surface is crucial, as biological growth that appears as slime requires a rough surface to adhere to. When the surface is smooth, there is no adherence, making the bladder self-cleaning when fresh water replaces all contaminants.
The surface also features Grunge-Guard treatment, which acts as a repellent at the molecular level, making it uninviting for bacteria. Due to these properties, Source does not include cleaning tablets or special maintenance tools in their selection. All necessary maintenance can be performed without special tools, except for the hose, which requires a hose brush.
