Carinthia Defence 4 Sleeping Bag. The Defence 4 is among the most popular military sleeping bags in Carinthia’s lineup. It’s a three-season sleeping bag, yet it's versatile enough for all-year-round use. By pairing it with the Carinthia Tropen sleeping bag, you get three different options. Use the Tropen in summer, the Defence 4 in spring and fall, and both together in winter. Pretty clever, right? However, many manage to brave the winter just with the Defence 4, as every person has a different tolerance to cold. The Defence 4 is also the base for the Defence Forces’ M05 sleeping bag and shares the same durable materials, ensuring longevity.
The sleeping bag features a two-way zipper in the center, allowing you to open the lower part for ventilation. A Velcro flap at the top prevents the zipper from opening unexpectedly while you sleep. Unlike the Tropen, the Defence 4 does not include a mosquito net, but you can tighten the face opening and use separate bug protection if needed. The face opening can be cinched down tightly, leaving only your nose, mouth, and eyes exposed. The Defence 4 has a mummy shape, conforming to the body’s contour. With minimal extra space inside, it warms up more efficiently using your body heat. The footbox is designed in a shell shape, allowing for comfortable sleeping even with footwear on. The materials used in the Defence 4 are not completely PFC-free (Perfluorinated Compounds). However, they are Öko-Tex certified. The Öko-Tex Standard 100 is an international testing and certification system for textiles, limiting the use of certain hazardous textile chemicals.

Insulation: G-LOFT® plus fill in two layers, 100% polyester. Excellent insulation with a favorable weight-to-thermal-performance ratio, also water-repellent.
Outer Fabric: 100% Shellproof ripstop polyamide, remarkably durable, windproof, and waterproof, with a water column of 1000 mm.
Inner Lining: 100% Shelltrans ripstop polyamide, lightweight and durable, comfortable against the skin.
Temperature Rating: F comfort -8.8 C (F=female), comfort -15 C, extreme -35 C. The comfort (F-comfort) temperature rating indicates the temperature at which you can sleep peacefully. Naturally, every individual has different sensitivities to cold.

Care Instructions: Avoid frequent washing, as it diminishes thermal performance. If necessary, use a washing machine on the hand wash cycle at 40 degrees (gentle cycle with a partial load). Do not tumble dry or iron. Dry flat. Store the sleeping bag opened, e.g., in a wardrobe on a hanger.

Manufacturer: Goldeck Textil GmbH, Carinthia. This Austrian manufacturer is one of the largest producers of military sleeping bags (among others) in Europe. While it may be unfamiliar to Finns, many have encountered it during their military service or reservist duties. Defense forces from various countries, including the Nordic countries, use these bags. All products are made from high-quality materials under strict quality control in their own factories in Slovakia and Austria.
